HUENENBERG, Switzerland -- Alcon, Inc. (NYSE:ACL) reported global sales of $1,536.4 million for the first quarter of 2008, an increase of 16.2 percent compared to the first quarter of 2007, or 9.4 percent excluding the impact of foreign exchange fluctuations. Net earnings for the first quarter of 2008 increased 24.0 percent to $429.4 million, or $1.43 per share on a diluted basis, compared to $346.2 million, or $1.14 per share for the first quarter of 2007.
